A coastal front entertaining area, transformed with an Automated Louvre Pergola

This Western Australian homeowner had a large front entertaining area with a lot of potential, but it was exposed to the weather and hard to use for most of the year. As the space faced the street, it also needed to look the part and lift the home’s kerb appeal, not just provide shelter.

Being in a coastal location added another layer of complexity. Anything installed here needed to stand up to salt air over the long term, not just look good on install day.

A brief for more than a basic pergola

The homeowner wasn’t after a standard off-the-shelf cover. They wanted the whole job taken care of, with the council approvals sorted, a design that suited the home’s façade, and materials and an install they could trust to last.

Drainage was a key consideration too. Rainwater running straight into the entertaining area wasn’t going to cut it, so the system needed to manage water without compromising the clean look they were after.

Designed around the details

Cover Co supplied and installed a fully automated aluminium louvre pergola, complete with an automated drop-down blind on the western side for extra protection from the afternoon sun and weather.

Rather than treating drainage as an afterthought, the team built concealed downpipes into the structural posts. Rainwater is directed away from the entertaining area without a single external pipe interrupting the pergola’s modern finish.

With the coastal setting in mind, every material and finish was chosen for corrosion resistance, so the system holds up to the marine environment without losing its look or performance over time.

Cover Co also managed the council approval process in full, so the homeowner didn’t have to navigate that on their own.

A space the homeowner actually uses

The result is a front entertaining area that works in a variety of weather conditions, not just on the good days. The automated louvre roof and western blind give year-round flexibility, opening up when the weather allows and closing in when it doesn’t. The concealed drainage keeps the area dry through the rain, and the corrosion-resistant materials mean the homeowner isn’t thinking about maintenance in a coastal environment.

It’s also made a visible difference to the front of the home, with the finished pergola adding real street appeal.

Cover Co has stayed in touch since the project wrapped up, and the homeowner has confirmed they’re loving the result. The team remains on hand for any servicing or additional shading needs down the track.
