Gage Roads.. what a venue!
But with one of the largest footprints and best locations of any venue on the WA coastline, some extra shade was always going to be needed.
What was their issue?
The team at Gage Roads recently completed an amazing refurb of the A-sheds at Fremantle port, and after a summer of bustling trade, they soon realised extra shade was required. The venue also features an awesome kids’ playground with a relic Toyota Landcruiser and wooden boat amongst other things; all covered by shade sails to keep the kids safe.
But what about the adults?
The venue’s designer, Finespun Architecture, went about designing a feature shade structure that suited the original building’s aesthetic, and was also in keeping with the Gage Roads brand and its coastal feel. They then reached out to Cover Co – a company that could not only manage a tricky installation but could turn the project around in time for them to maximise its use in the 22/23 summer months.
What did we do?
Along with the team at Perna Engineering, we built and installed a 100m2 custom steel structure with feature timber ‘Latte’ pole roof lining, wrapping around existing plants. The final frame design featured long-span trusses to reduce the number of posts required in the busy walk-through area. The shade provided is perfect, and whilst it’s a fixed roof structure you never feel closed in. We worked closely with all parties, including Fremantle Ports, to ensure the job and the approvals process ran smoothly and efficiently, from start to finish.
