How Cover Co. Delivered Seamless Shading Solutions for Nokturnl Group’s Stories at Yagan Square
Working with a complex building design
Nokturnl Group, the team behind popular Perth venues like The Beaufort, The Old Synagogue and The Station, faced a new challenge with their latest project, Stories at Yagan Square. The multi-level venue’s design was ambitious, and they needed shading systems that could adapt to both the architectural complexity and the unpredictable weather of Yagan Square.
Surrounded by urban structures, Stories required a solution that allowed for flexibility – opening up the venue to natural light and air on sunny days while providing protection during harsh weather. With spaces like the dance floor and outdoor areas demanding versatile solutions, they turned to Cover Co. to help them achieve the perfect balance of functionality and style.
A solution for every space
Cover Co. was up to the challenge, delivering shading systems that exceeded Nokturnl Group’s expectations. On the upper level, Oztech retractable roof systems and a Lumex Louvre roof system were installed, giving the team complete control over the dance floor roof. This meant the space could be easily opened or closed to suit the weather or atmosphere they wanted to create.
On the middle level, Ziptrak blinds were added to the balcony, offering both protection from the elements and maintaining the sleek aesthetic of the venue. The building’s exterior benefited from fixed and operable blade facade louvres, which not only provided airflow and weather protection but also added to the venue’s visual appeal.
For the ground-floor restaurant, Klara, Horiso External Venetian systems were installed to offer shade and light control while keeping the restaurant looking modern and inviting. Thanks to these solutions, the venue operates efficiently year-round, delivering an optimal experience for patrons, regardless of the weather.

Having worked with Nokturnl Group and Builden on previous projects, Cover Co. knew the importance of communication. By working closely with MJA Studio Architects, we ensured that our shading systems were fully integrated into the building’s design, minimising disruption to project timelines.

The venue’s prime location in the CBD, with its high foot traffic and bustling environment, added another layer of complexity to the project. The Oztech and Lumex roofing systems offered the versatility needed for this multi-level venue, while the Ziptrak blinds and Venetian systems enhanced both practicality and aesthetics. The result?
